May 28

ashlyn, aric, and summer

Just when our lil’ family finally settled into a comfortable routine, our most adored member has to leave.
Having been mentally prepared for this, I still didn’t imagine it to be so hard or hurt so much.
When Ashlyn cries for her Daddy, I want to console her…instead, I pitifully cried along with her.

My mom always tells me to see the bright side of every situation. *SIGH*…Mom’s a smart woman.
I can sulk in sadness and self-pity, but I can’t deny the fact that this experience made us a stronger couple. We definitely have a greater appreciation for one another….as well as respect, patience, and love. Time is precious, and the last 17 days have been especially wonderful as we made the most of every minute.

How I long for the day we can all be together again and resume “normal” life. The distance and time apart has taught me to value the simplicities of our day-to-day life…waking up next to one another, being able to talk on the phone on a whim, sitting down to meals together, laughing, sharing the same experiences, enjoying our kids together, a warm embrace, our goodnight kisses, or merely being in eachother’s presence.
This also made me realize how often I took things for granted. My heart aches with guilt. *sniff*…actually, my heart just aches. I vow not forsake again.

Sad….so so sad.

May my hubby have a safe flight and a quick return. May I be strong for my kids.

Summer. When i think of “summer,” it conjures up images of hot days/warm nights, vacations, digging my toes into the sand, drinking ice tea, frolicking in shorts and tanks, barbeques and all things light-hearted and fun. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, one of the definitions of summer = “a period of fruition, fulfillment, happiness, or beauty” and I couldn’t agree more. Because now, “summer” takes on a whole new meaning for me and my family.

As you have already seen, Summer is about the cutest thing in the world. Of course, I’m a biased-auntie. But seriously, the pictures posted on this site do not do her justice. She is so precious. You have to witness her in person, cuddle her, smell her and touch her ultra-soft skin to truly appreciate how adorable she is.

It’s been exactly two weeks to the day that Summer arrived. I can’t wait to see her grow and see what kind of infant, toddler, little girl she will be.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that my sister is absolutely courageous, because I know that she won’t toot her own horn. But on May 12th, Peg demonstrated a lot of bravery and withstood a great deal of pain. But she’s also really fortunate because although she felt like she pushed for an eternity, it was, in reality, only ten minutes or so.

Congratulations to the Shen family. And lucky for us too, because with each additional family member, we all feel so blessed and there’s a new meaning.

As much as I try my hardest not to think about it….our days with Aric is soon drawing near.
Being strong and putting on a happy-face proves to be much more difficult this time around as I’ve been terribly emotional these days.

Other than that, everything else is GREAT! Our friends visit us often. We even had a few friends from SoCal visit (THANKS Brian, Grace, Brandon, and Ed)! And Ashlyn and Summer are both blossoming!

summer's small head...hehe

Ashlyn is a loving, helpful, and protective big sister. She’s chattier than before and has demonstrated many behaviors of a “big girl”. We still deal with the occasional bouts of bossiness and moodiness…but it’s hard to distinguish whether it’s due to the new baby or natural growing pains.
Overall, she remains charming and delightful.

Summer looks cuter with each passing day. She is such an easy-going infant…she spends her waking hours quietly observing and absorbing her surrounding, and/or actively stretching and kicking. Similar to her sister, she has displayed a variety of animated silly facial expressions. We’ve all caught glimpses of her sweet smile (which she flashes in her sleep). hehehe
For the most part, eating and sleeping occupies the majority of her day. She sleeps really well…her longest stretch so far has been 8 straight hours!

I’m sleeping better, although I still have to get up every 3 hours or so to pump breastmilk. I’ve been watching a lot of TV in the wee hours of the morning. My favorite shows are old re-runs of “Three’s Company”, “Dawson’s Creek”, or “Saved By The Bell” and “E! True Hollywood Stories”. HAHAHA!
I pretty much tossed my “Chinese month-long recovery” out the window. I left the house several times already (entire family in tow), for doctor appointments due to an allergic reaction I had to the food and chinese herbs associated with the month-long recovery. I have horrible hives covering 60% of my body. It’s been over a week, and I’m miserably itchy. I’m constantly sitting on my hands to prevent scratching. *ugh!*
I embrace many aspects of my culture except for this…it’s just so old skool.

Alrighty…time to get back to my hubby and kids.
