My sweetie turned 7 months old on Sunday! Due to all the travelling last month, I did not get a chance to do a 6 month post….but since her last update, she has grown, learned, and changed soooooo much!
It’s funny…but it always seems like the day she turns a month older (and not a minute sooner), she instantly acquires a new accomplishment. When she turned 6 months old, she began crawling. And when she turned 7 months old, she began pulling herself up to a standing position!
I went through Ashlyn’s old journals to see how they are developing at the same age. Wow…I could very well just cut and paste from Ashlyn’s 7th month update. hehehe
Aside from a couple of things, they are very similar.
She spends much of her time on her tummy. There are two styles in which she moves about…crawling on her tummy like a soldier hiding in tall grass, or by rocking back and forth on her hands and knees and launching her chest out. It looks like she’s doing the breaststroke. It also looks kinda painful on the hardwood floor….but she doesn’t seem to mind. One thing about Summer that I find incredibly impressive is her sturdiness and control. From her tummy, she can push herself up to a sitting position. She has a strong back and a great posture. If she should happen to lose her balance and fall backward, she’ll stiffen up and tuck her chin into her chest so her head doesn’t hit the floor. It’s the funniest thing…it’s like she’s doing Pilates.
Summer is very vocal….especially in the mornings. Every morning I wake up to the sound of her singsong babbling and happy squealing.
She’s making many different sounds now: “bababa”, “mummmm”, “ah-gooooo”, “poooooh”, daaadaaa”. She laughs outloud now….and if she’s really happy and excited, she screams/screeches. It’s the kind that makes everyone jump and cringe.
Be careful what you have lying around. Not only is she grabby, but she’s lightening quick! I can’t tell you how many times she cleared my place setting at the dinner table. By the way, Summer can now join us at the dinner table….sitting in Ashlyn’s highchair. She’s been eating solids for the last couple of months. Mainly breads, rice, rice cereal, sweet potatoes, squash, banana, peaches, applesauce, and most recently…chicken.
Her favorite is silken tofu and ice water. I’ve started supplementing with formula since my milk production decrease significantly after vacationing last month. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Weaning hasn’t been too bad.
Summer’s favorite past-time is grabbing her feet and trying to get them into her mouth. If she’s wearing socks…she won’t be for long. She instantly pulls them off and tosses them aside. I’m losing socks on a daily basis.
Summer is extremely active, attentive, and alert. Feedings and diaper changes can be quite difficult as her attention becomes diverted and she wants to crawl away. She loves watching her sister…she loves watching Ashlyn over televison. But then again, Ashlyn can be more entertaining than television.
The sisters are starting to interact with each other more. They love to hold hands (and Ashlyn also loves to smell Summer’s feet). They love to roll and wrestle in bed or on the floor. They love to make each other laugh hysterically. They love to fight over something (a toy, piece of paper, my attention). But the most endearing thing is….when Ashlyn cries, Summer will cry….and vice versa. Not always, but sometimes.
You can tell they really love each other!
The fun stage has begun. We all live for Summer’s huge gummy grin!
