current weight: 21 pounds 14 ounces
current length: 31 inches
Over a couple of weeks ago, my lil’ one turned 15 months. Since Summer’s last update, she has finally gained some weight…a little over a pound. WOO-HOO!
She has also sprouted a new tooth (her lower right first molar).

My observations this month? Summer’s become quite the chatty one. New words she added to her volcabulary: “hi”, “hello”, “bye”, “all done” (followed by clapping her hands and hold her palms up like a card dealer in Vegas. HAHAHA!), “neh-neh” (milk in chinese), “goh-goh” (dog in chinese), “doggie”, “jump”, “Elmo” (she calls everything Elmo, including Barney and Telletubbies), “tee-bee” (TV), “Dora”, “Boots”, “grape”, “juice”, “phone”, “boon” (balloon), “too-bawsh” (toothbrush), “shoes”, “up”, and “down”. She also started to hum and babble along to kiddie tunes (Barney’s “I love you” song, The Doodlebops theme song, Elmo’s theme song, Dora the Explorer theme song, and The Backyardigan’s theme song).
Summer’s got kind of a deep and gruff voice.
Summer can communicate her feelings and needs with simple words, gestures, and pointing. She has also began following simple directions like handing us objects, sharing, throwing/putting things away, giving hugs, and cleaning up toys. I love how she claps her hands, nods, and beams a big proud smile after each accomplishment/interaction.
So cute!
Summer is very active…she runs around the house, climbs to precarious heights, jumps on the furniture, picks up and carries heavy items, spins in dizzing circles, and does somersaults on the carpet. I think I just listed everything she did in the last five minutes. HAHA!
Other things Summer loves doing (that drives us crazy):
- emptying the tupperware cabinet
- turning the TV off and on, off and on, off and on, etc…
- pounding on the keyboard of my laptop
- playing with the telephones
- playing with my cellphone (and crank calling friends and family)
- pulling clothes out of dressers
- unrolling toilet paper
- emptying the tissue box (sheet by sheet)
She started carrying a play stool around to help her get to certain things…such as light switches, which she delights in flicking off and on. *sigh* Sometimes I feel like she’s older than she is by the things she does. She keeps up with her sister and all their friends just like one of the big girls.
She watches and copies everything we do. I especially find it hilarious when she uses her napkin to wipe the table after mealtimes. HAHA!
Speaking of mealtimes, Summer’s appetite changed a bit. Although she still eats better than her sister, she no longer has the voracious appetite she once had. She gotten kinda picky too…often turning away from the things she loved or spits them out.
I’m so proud at how well she’s controlling her utensils (more food wind up in her mouth than her lap).
Summer’s also a lefty. I know kids alternate between the right and left hand in the beginning (as did Ashlyn). But no matter how many times we switch utensils/crayon/toothbrush from her left hand to right, Summer just switches it back to her left hand. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but Aric finds it problematic.
Don’t let the cuteness fool you….Summer’s got quite a temper and a mean streak when she doesn’t get her way. Either Summer’s beginning to enter “The Terrible Twos” already or she’s just violent.
She doesn’t cry or tantrum very often…but she’s quick to hit, push, bite, pinch, and pull hair. *ouch!*
Poor Ashlyn’s always getting bullied by her baby sis. We always joke that if the situaton arose one day, perhaps Ashlyn can hide behind Summer in a schoolyard fight. hehehe

Since Ashlyn started preschool, I have been able to devote more time to Summer. From that, I have bonded even moreso with her and picked up on some of her behaviors that I might not have noticed before. Overall, she’s the coolest…so silly, so tough, so loud, so mischievious, so determined, so stubborn, so playful, so independent, so helpful, so much fun!
Some things she says or does that amuse and delight me:
- she’ll bring her finger to her mouth and shush herself after she screams/squeals/yells loudly. HAHAHA!
- brushes my hair while I’m on the laptop
- the way she sits in peoples’ laps (she’ll get in front of them, look over her shoulder while backing up until she lands in their lap).
- she’ll asks for her toothbrush several times in a day and brushes her teeth all by herself. *thumbs up*
- her kisses and her hugs
- when she says “thank you” after you sneeze. HAHAHA!
