girls at JFK

Last Thursday, I took the red-eye flight from LAX to JFK. This would be my first time to the ever-so-popular-much-talked-about-infamously-debacherous city of New York. Joined by 7 friends, who kidnapped the bride-to-be, Bett, to celebrate in true bachelorette style.

Friday morning – Mayu, Ivy, Bett, Wil, Sarah, Emily, and I all arrived into JFK a little after 6:30am. We dropped off our bags at our hotel and grabbed breakfast at Cafe Metro before touring downtown by foot. I saw Rockerfeller Center, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, Times Square, MTV studios, and NBC studios. We tried to get on the Today Show (along with hundreds of other people), but didn’t. *poo!*

We window shopped and rode the ferris wheel at Toys R Us, before cabbing it to the Meatpacking district for lunch at Pastis.
Not only did the popular french bistro offer yummy food, but celeb-sightings as well….I saw Jennifer Esposito (of “Crash”) dining with Bradley Cooper (of “Wedding Crashers”). Heard Sandra Bernhard was there too, but I didn’t see.
Afterwards, we went to Magnolia’s Bakery for cupcakes then walked down Bleeker Street to Mulberry Street to shop. I didn’t realize how much/far I walked till I looked on Google Hybrid Map. Jen arrived by late afternoon.

For dinner, we had reservations at Kion Lounge in East Village, followed by pub-hopping in the Lower East Side (Verlaine, Fat Baby, People, and BOB), played made up drinking games, hung out with Brian, Benji, Rita, and Sam, and silly bachelorette dares.

girls at The Met

Saturday morning, Kay arrived. We all bought a Funpass and rode the subway around town. We had lunch at Cafe Orlin in East Village. I really love the charm of small cafes…cozy decor, chipped porcelain tea sets, friendly service, and impeccable food…or perhaps it was the company I was in? We walked around East Village despite the cold and rainy weather, and also shopped at H&M (and the 3-story Forever 21) in downtown. Then hoofed it several long blocks in the rain back to our hotel….where we warmed up and got ready for our big evening on the town.

BFF!

We pre-partied in the room, had shots at the hotel lounge, and champagne and dinner at Bette (pronounced “Betty”, like our bride) Restaurant in Chelsea. They have the BEST truffled frites I’ve ever had!!!
The rest of the evening was spent kicking back Grey Goose cocktails and dancing till the wee hours of the morning at Level V in the Meatpacking district. O.M.G….so much fun! I didn’t get to bed until almost 7am.

foxy mamas you don't wanna mess with

Sunday, we slept in, packed up, and headed to the airport by afternoon. The weekend flew by way too quickly. Being able to spend the whole weekend with my closest girlfriends is such a rare luxury, I was sad to see it end. Needless to say, my first experience in the Big Apple was an awesome one. We all had a great time, especially our bachlorette. *YAY!*

A HUGE THANKS to Wil, who did all the planning/reservations for the entire weekend. You totally ROCK, girl!
Also, A HUGE THANKS to Aric, for being the best husband and father in the world! I love you!

All this fun didn’t come without a price though – I am soooooo sick now! *hack hack*sniff sniff* I lost my voice and have been prescribed antibiotics (for a bronchial infection). I felt like I was coming down with something on Friday but had to completely dismiss it. I’m sure all the partying, lack of sleep, and walking through the rain didn’t help either. But was it worth it? Oh, HELL YEAH!!!

I’m supposed to drive up to NorCal today, but in my current state of health, those plans had to be nixed.

summer

Summer caught what Ashlyn had last week….same fever, runny nose, cough. But whenever the little one gets sick, it always seems worse and takes much longer to get over. She’s had a fever since Monday. It’s usually mild during the day, but peaks to about 103 in the wee hours of the morning. The last couple of nights have been tiring….waking up to her cries at around 3am, forcing her to take Tylenol, giving her lukewarm baths, and comforting her back to sleep.

Administering Tylenol (or any medication) to Summer is THE WORST. It’s literally a physical struggle. I’ve tried EVERYTHING – offering her two types (liquid or meltaway form), slipping it into juice, watering it down, taking it myself as an example (and making the “yummy” face), begging, and using bribery…but in the end, it always ends up with:
me – pinning her down
her – a whole lot of kicking, screaming, crying, and covering her face
me – forcing her to take it
her – spitting it out
me – yelling “no, no, no!”
her – crying, gagging, and throwing up
*repeat*

*SIGH* It’s awful, and if I were my neighbors, I’d probably call the cops.
After last night’s episode and my exhausted delirium, I fell asleep thinking of ways to invent a more appealing fever reducer (gummy worm form, in a chocolate kiss, etc..). I would appreciate any suggestions on giving meds to an unwilling child.

She’s back to her playful self right now. But then again, she’s always fine during the day…it’s the late evenings I worry about.

Summer: “mama, movie!”
Peg: “okay, go pick one”
*Summer returns with “RENT”*
Peg: “no, baby…pick something else”
*Summer, looking crestfallen, returns with “Lady and the Tramp”* HAHAHA!

I hope Summer gets better soon. I’m leaving tomorrow night for the weekend….and will be uncomfortablly fretful if her fever continues.

summer

Summer’s bangs were getting too long….touching the bridge of her nose and covering her eyes. I tried to hold out as long as I could with barrettes and clips, but she kept pulling them off. I couldn’t stand it any longer.

Inspired by Julie and Cyn, I tried my hand at hair cutting today. hehehe
It wasn’t too hard since her bangs are thin. Summer sat patiently on the bathroom counter as I snipped away. Occassionally, Summer would point and yell out, “uh oh!” when hair fell in her lap. It took all of two minutes.

Yeah, it’s a little crooked…kinda short…and oh so fobby! But she looks soooo cute!
I’m still not used to it…so every time I look at her, it brings a huge smile to my face.
