Today was Ashlyn’s first day of school. Though it’s only kindergarten, I see it as her introduction into the real world. That mere thought made me sad and teary-eyed all week. Being ridiculously sensitive and sentimental, I was really nervous dropping her off this morning…worried that I might have an emotional breakdown and alarm all the children, parents, and teachers. But I didn’t cry. Oh the relief! Now I’m wondering what kind of heartless person I am.
Damn, there is no pleasing myself. HAHAHA!
There was too much going on to get emotional. We had to stand in this line (to get a name tag), then that line (to get through the gate), then another line (to get into the classroom). Clueless kids and parents following the masses. All the while, bumping into neighbors and people we met at Kinder Welcome and Kinder testing.
By the time Ashlyn went into class, I shared her sense of excitement…a cool new classroom, so many new classmates, a pretty teacher, and a promise of a fun school year ahead.
Summer and I picked her up 3 hours later. Ashlyn excitedly told us about the tour they took around school, snack time, and how she made friends with a girl named, Sophie.
*thumbs up!*
I like that Ashlyn’s school implements the student uniform program. Makes getting ready in the morning so much easier. No more fighting over clothes. And as long as she can wear her beloved fuchsia cowboy boots, she’s all goooood!
We just got back from lunch/shopping at the Spectrum with Grace. The girls are napping now. I’m pretty beat too since I tossed and turned all night, barely getting any sleep.

Awww look at how cute Miss Ashlyn is with those boots! I’m surprised they allowed ‘em. I would think they would be a problem with running? So are her days normally only 3 hours long? Uniforms are a godsend! I was just like you, I thought for sure I would be a babbling mess but I think I cried enough on the first day of preschool and preschool graduation that I didn’t have enough tears to cry.

Kindergarten? She’s in Kindergarten?! Why do they have to grow up so fast!
I’m glad she had so much fun, though, and that she made a friend. Love the boots, by the way.

honestly, ashlyn always seemed mature beyond her years to me, so she seemed ripe for kindergarten. it’s sad how fast they grow. can you imagine our children leaving for college–waterworks galore!
