kinder performance

Ashlyn’s school musical was a hit…especially the kinder program. The kids were so cute, singing our favorite holiday tunes at the top of their happy little lungs….that is, except for my child. She stood up there, lips barely moving, and looking quite forlorn.

Summer and I didn’t get there early enough to get a seat in the assembly room. The place wasn’t just packed…it was overflowing. Summer and I stood as close to the entrance as possible. I tried taking pictures, but they all turned out crappy, blurry, and dark.

Summer: “where’s jei-jei? I can’t see! I can’t see!”
Peg: “there!”
Summer: “where?! where?!”

Summer couldn’t find her sister in the mass of singers on stage. I had to lift her way up to get a glimpse, blocking cameras and pissing off a lot of parents in the process.

When the kinder program ended and the kids exited the stage area, I called to Ashlyn and waved. Her face instantly lit up with a big smile. Afterwards I asked her why she wasn’t singing loud and proud like she had practiced.

Ashlyn: “because I was shy.”
Peg: ???

Never thought that was possible, but…okay.

ashlyn

I got many compliments from fellow moms about her xi pao. Everyone wanted to know where I got it. Oh man, don’t even get me started on this subject. It was an elaborate birthday gift - so she could have a matching outfit with her American Girl doll (also gifted by her godfather).
When I was in New York earlier this year, I saw young girls carrying their “mini-me” dolls around Fifth Avenue, and thought it was kind of creepy. Ashlyn loves her doll, moreso because her godfather gave it to her, but she hasn’t bought into the whole American Girl cult…..yet. *knock on wood* Thank goodness, because it’s just too damn expensive!

aawww man! You can barely see her! But it’s so cute still. I love hearing little kids sing at the top of their lungs. Take a picture of her in her outfit! I want to see her with the dress and the doll. hahaha

YEah I wanna see the doll and Ashlyn in their matching ‘fits. When we went to NYC a few years back, the American Girl store just opened. Crazy midwestern moms and their daughters flocking to the place. I’m hoping N doesn’t buy into it either. I’m happy to indulge her with Hello Kitty , thankfully she’s not into ANY kind of toys!
