Ooooh…my new favorite yarn!!! This luxurious long strand faux fur novelty yarn creates super soft and cuddly scarves. Not only was this scarf a lot of fun to work on, but it was also the easiest! Completely snag and problem free. Lovin’ it!
I will definitely stock up on this yarn in a variety of colors. The price isn’t bad for the end results…it feels like heaven!

For Gracie…and others that are interested and have a difficult time finding good yarn…I discovered that Yarnware has an incredile selection of fancy ones. Also, the prices are better than what I had paid at the Knitting Arts! *SWEET!*

Blossom for mother and child

After working with double yarn on my last scarf, going back to a single yarn was sooooo much easier! It took me approximately 7 1/2 hours to finish two scarves! Damn…I’m my own sweatshop! HAHAHA! I made an adult scarf and a matching child scarf with long fringes.

    YARN:

Schaefer Yarns Blossom in Little Barney

    LENGTH & COST:

125 yards at $42.00

    MATERIAL:

93% Mohair, 4% Wool, 3% Nylon

    NEEDLE:

Bamboo 10″, Size 15

    PEG’S 2 CENTS:

Some didn’t care for the pastel color, but I absolutely love it!….so much so, I plopped down $42.00 for a single hank!!! The yarn is loopy and naturally creates a thick soft boucle texture. It was by far the priciest yarn I purchased. Although it makes up for in quality and weight.
However, I’ll most likely stick with the ultra-soft synthetic yarns for scarves and save yarn like this for when I get better at knitting…and can fashion a beanie, sweater, or poncho.

Blue Legarro with Flora

My third scarf took 2 days to complete. Not bad considering I took it apart over 10 times! It was my first time incorporating two different yarns together to accomplish the boucle effect.

    YARN:

Lana Grossa Legarro in Blue #10

    LENGTH & COST:

175 yards at $11.50

    MATERIAL:

100% Microfiber

    YARN:

Trendsetter Flora in Desert Sky

    LENGTH & COST:

140 yards at $13.00

    MATERIAL:

100% Polyester

    NEEDLE:

Bamboo 10″, Size 15

    PEG’S 2 CENTS:

The materials looked gorgeous alone and when put side by side. But now looking at the completed scarf….I’m not sure if one compliments the other as much as I thought (or perhaps I’ve been staring at it too long). In any case, I loved working with the Legarro yarn…the color is vibrant and it’s soooo incredibly soft! The Flora yarn was delicate and intimidating. I really enjoyed the challenge of knitting with two yarns. One thing is for certain, you have to stay focused…I couldn’t knit and watch TV at the same time otherwise I’d wind up with extra stitches. hehehe

Multicolored Vamos for mom

I finished my second scarf over the weekend. Despite the numerous times I took it apart and started over, I couldn’t believe how fast I finished it!

    YARN:

GGH Vamos in multicolor #15

    LENGTH & COST:

87 yards at $9.50

    MATERIAL:

100% Microfiber Nylon Polyamide

    NEEDLE:

Bamboo 10″, Size 15

    PEG’S 2 CENTS:

A bit tricky to work with at first…but that could also be because I’m inexperienced. The material is extraordinarily soft!…like petting baby bunnies. I picked this yarn and color specifically for my mom, but I totally wouldn’t mind making one for myself. Definitely a yarn I would buy again. The finished creation looks like I’ve been knitting for years! Woo-Hoo!

Feb 27

Happy Friday! I spent most of this week homebound. The stormy weather was a factor, but I found comfort spending time with Ashlyn, my family, watching TV, cooking, and practicing my knitting.

Peg's first scarf

I finally completed my first scarf! I used size 8 needles and a skein of Lion Brand Cotton-Ease (cotton/acrylic blend) yarn in Banana Cream. The skinny needles and tight knit was very unforgiving to imperfections. Nevertheless, I am quite proud of my first attempt.

Last night, Wil, Ivy, and I made a trip to Knitting Arts for supplies. What a cute store! Though I had not completed my scarf at the time, I knew that it wouldn’t be a scarf I would wear much…or at all. More of a sentimental keepsake.
I decided to step up and try my hand at the good stuff: I invested in a pair of size 15 bamboo needles and splurged on 14 skeins of yarn in various colors and super soft textures. Call me impulsive, overzealous….heck, you can even call me crazy, because I spent nearly $200 there!

This morning I started on a multicolored Vamos (Nylon Polyamide) scarf for my mom. The yarn is incredibly soft, fuzzy, and delicate. After 3 to 4 inches into it, I had to take it apart and start over. I did this 3 times, and it was frustrating!!! The fuzzy material helps disguise flaws in my handiwork, but it’s also makes it really difficult to work with. Gawd, I hope I don’t jack up too bad! *cross fingers*

Sis has been really busy with work lately. We won’t be doing our usual Friday lunch and merrymaking. *sniff*

Okay, my break is over….I better get back to knitting. I have many more projects in the bag. hehehe
