a video shot from the kiddies’ bedroom
(you can see my neighbors boning out)

The last 24 hours have been scary. A couple of hours after my last post, the police ordered a mandatory evacuation of our community. It was a little past 11pm, and with the clothes on our back (and our toothbrushes), we grabbed the kids and Cookie and left. Aric and I checked into a nearby hotel for shelter. I barely slept, but when I did, I had drempt that our house was in ruins.

Luckily, it was just a bad dream. This morning, the fire was contained and we returned home….all was well. Aric and the kiddies stayed home from school/work. I still went to school for noon duty, and the student count was about half. The students ate indoors today due to the gusty winds and horrible air quality.

The fires are still raging in other parts of Southern California, and my thoughts and prayers goes out to all those who risk life and home.

We’ve been watching the news, and there are fires everywhere tonight. Seven, to be exact…spreading all around the Southern California area! It’s very frightening. The strong Santa Ana winds are not helping either.

I’m trying to stay calm, but it’s difficult when you hear how hard the winds are blowing outside and seeing how quickly the fire is moving.

The girls are sleeping soundly right now, but before my older one went to bed:

Ashlyn: “I hope the fire doesn’t come to our house…because I don’t want us to die.”
Peg:  “…it wont….we won’t.”

I’m not that religious, but let us pray now.
